interactive experiment: spider plants vs. radiation: amend 05/14/2010
i am exposing identical clones of spider plants to radiation, excessive ionizing radiation, or a lack of radiation they require for photosynthesis. i am also exposing some spider plants directly to radium and thorium, to UV light, and to a magnetic field. i also have some "normal" control groups (direct sunlight / indirect sunlight, indoors). what will happen to them? feel free to join in and take a guess: plant 11: "bucket control group plant" (to compare with uranium bucket plant) plant 10: "Thorium plant" (watered with thorium oxide ash (ThO2)) plant 09: "Radium plant" (watered with radium paint (Ra/ZnS(Cu))) plant 08: "UV plant" (exposed to longwave-UV for 2 hours a day) plant 07: "magnet plant" (exposed to a permanent magnetic field) plant 06: "indirect light plant" (gets indirect sunlight) plant 05: "toilet plant" (exposure to 80 watts light bulbs for 1 hour a day, no sunlight) plant 04: "outside plant" (exposure to weather, wind, and all sun radiation, including UV) plant 03: "inside plant" (steady temperatues, ideal amount of light, best environment) plant 02: "uranium plant" (next to uranium ore; sunlight, but also 50 uSv/h of gamma and beta radiation) plant 01: "bucket plant" (sunlight, greenhouse, but radioactive radon gas and 80 uSv/h of alpha, beta and gamma radiation)radioactive radon gas and 80 uSv/h of alpha, beta and gamma radiation)
